FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Portland, Oregon – February 14, 2010 – Portland’s newest independent electronic music label announces its second release, NPM10006 Monument – by Darin Marshall. Monument will be available for download March 22, 2010 on Junodownload.com, djtunes.net, beatsdigital.com, digital-tunes.net, itunes, amazon, and many other digital retailers.
Monument is a soulful, deep tech house cut with a slow-burning groove that builds the length of the whole track. Remix support comes from John Selway (Spectral, Hooj Tunes, Tronic, CSM, Selway Music) with a stripped down, deep house flavored rework that cuts the track down into a subtle, spacious groove. Additionally, Nude Photo Music artist Jon Gillham returns with a tech-infused mix that takes the bpm up, but keeps the deep feeling. Closing out the single is a dark and glitchy techno mix by fellow PDX resident Centrikal (Patrick Anthony Frye – SubSensory Recordings).
Reviews
“I could see this one defining the summer of 2010 as an SF techno scene go-to, great progression and feel without losing steam at any point.” – Andy W (Mutor Soundsystem), Resource Records
“This is an excellent release. The original has a nice smooth low end and a hypnotic atmospheric quality. I really dig the Jon Gillham mix with it’s grooving tech type stabs, very danceable. The John Selway mix is hot, nice deep progressive with subtle layering. I can see this release fitting into a wide range of sets.” – Wesley Dysart, Steamtown Records
About the Artists
Darin Marshall - Darin established himself as a pioneer of the Bay Area electronic music scene with the launch of seminal Bay Area label Belief Systems in 1995. Many acclaimed artists including Sutekh, Twerk, Kit Clayton, Safety Scissors, and Warp recording artist Stewart Walker first released their tracks on Belief System.
Belief Systems defined the minimal, glitchy, yet danceable sound of the San Francisco underground in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. With remixes by Noel Sanger and John Selway in 2000 and 2001, Darin crossed over to more mainstream house and techno styles. Continuing his minimal techno career – Darin collaborated with Jon Williams under the name User, and released the highly sought-after Habit Form EP. In 2003 Darin took on remixer duties on Cybrid’s electrofunk classic Transistor Abuse EP, as part of DiViD. More recently, Darin reinvented himself as Mantic, with three solid releases of his back catalog on Magnatune. Darin now brings his considerable talent and choice cuts from his back catalog to Nude Photo Music.

Jon Gillham – Mancunian expatriate Jon Gillham brought his experiences from Manchester’s explosive music scene – first to Florida, playing keys for successful cover band Big Wide World, and then to the early 90’s San Francisco electronic music scene as a founding member of Protolab, regarded as the Bay Area’s first live drum & bass group. Jon has collaborated with artists such as George Duke, flamenco legend Jason McGuire, and has played many of San Francisco’s top dance venues. Now on Nude Photo Music, Jon is working to bring his own flavor of electro-influenced tech house to the world.

John Selway – In a world of electronic music hit and runs, John Selway is a rare beast: an innovator and originator whose current work genuinely rivals his groundbreaking early projects. And while the DC-born, NYC-based producer and DJ has left his mark on countless styles, he’s defined by none of them, remaining devoted to his own multi-faceted muse.

Patrick Anthony Frye – With the 2009 release of the Orange Sky EP on SubSensory Recordings, Portland-based producer Patrick Anthony Frye established himself as a top-notch producer – building on the reputation he’s built as one of Portland’s best underground Djs. Now part of the Nude Photo Music family, Patrick is working on more remixes and a future release.
